·        Explain the causes for the popularity of fast food restaurants.
Personally the reason I believe fast food is so popular is because most people need something quick and cheap. In this portfolio I would be describing why I believe fast food is so popular and also the reason why I don’t think it is healthy for us Americans. Starting off a lot of Americans suffer from Obesity, also fast food is high in fat calories, cholesterol and sodium. American fast food eaters should start making smarter choices on how they eat. It will pay off in the long run.  You can simply go to McDonald’s and pay about six dollars for a hamburger, fries and a fountain drink as to rethinking what are your healthy choices. I’m honestly happy that I’m a vegetarian because it limits my food choices.  If I eat fast food most of the time it really is not as bad.  I don’t eat hamburgers and honestly I think that’s the nastiest thing ever because you don’t know if is cooked properly or how long that meat been sitting for. Since workers in fast food restaurants are getting paid minimum wage, they get replaced easily and are not concerned at all about our foods on how well it is prepared.
Fast food chain-companies just really want our money.  I feel like they don’t care that a big percentage of Americans are obese. If they were concerned they would make the fast food chains decrease or try to put healthy choices out there for people. Little kids are eating these foods and yes, they like it, but I don’t think it’s the best choice for them. They should stop worrying about the money and just provide the best for us. I prefer to pay more for a meal knowing it’s good for my health instead of stuffing my face with something that can affect my health.
Obesity is a term used to describe body weight that is much greater than what is considered healthy. If you are obese, you have a much higher amount of body fat than is healthy or desirable. Body mass index of 30 BMI is calculated from a person’s weight and height and provides a reasonable indicator of body fatness and weight categories that may lead to health problems. About half of Americans are obese taking in more calories than are required in the body on a daily basis “energy imbalance”. Eating excessive fast food can lead to a lot of different things as health difficulties. Fast food is very tempting to consumers because of its convenience. It’s so easy to swing through the drive thru on your way home from work, starving, and order a super size extra value meal for yourself, your partner, and kids.
The food is fairly cheap and you usually won’t spend more than five minutes in line. If the food that fast food companies are serving were actually good for you this would be an ideal situation. However this is not the case. Instead, fast food companies are profiting off of clogging your arteries resulting in heart disease.
The first problem with fast food is that over the decades they have been increasing the serving size available. Now when you order a small fries, you actually get what would have been a medium just five years ago. The larger serving size you are served the harder it is for you to know when to stop. From the time we are children our parents teach us to clean our plates because there are those less fortunate who have no food. So if we are given an extra large fry, we should be thankful and eat the whole thing.
